The purpose of the Coalition Against Hunger is to feed and to see to the basic necessities of life for people who have fallen through the cracks in society, no matter what the reason that put them there. There is a very large and growing need for food banks to be available and open to the people of need in any locality they may be. |

The Coalition Against Hunger was created in 1987 to address these issues on a private, business- based, non-governmental involvement, grass roots basis. Using skills learned from coming up from the streets of America to success, the founders incorporated and then established a 501c tax status, thus using existing business entities, to establish a focal point for existing charitable and private efforts as well as collecting and distributing the direct contributions of food as well as counseling and education on what to do, where to go, who to call, etc. |

The idea is to take unwanted items, sometimes treasures that for one reason or another a foundation or individual is moved to give away, sometimes items often discarded in trash heaps with use still left in the item, if processed by hands skilled in assessing use of such items. The 501c status allows the CAH to give the all-important receipt for tax purposes of the donor. |

Research and development into alternative fuels and methods in order to take the emphasis off fossil fuel and eliminate the competition for food sources in the agri-fuel generating business. |

With 19 years of experience, the CAH has an established record of service to the community. CAH seeks to be more effective in the future by taking a successful plan and expanding it. |

The 2 Year Plan |
|
CAH seeks funding for the purchase of an existing building, or land to build on, that has an adequate amount of space for the corporate headquarters, the food bank, and the resource and research center. |
|
CAH seeks to fund salaries for a staff of 5 to run the day-to-day activities. |

The 5 Year Plan |
|
The people in need, defined by certain income limitations, ether as homeless, or marginally housed in temporary accommodations, family size etc., and the need for health insurance. CAH is exploring ways to do this through existing insurance plans and using private foundation funds for financial resource. Small regional private sector efforts as opposed to large State or Federal entities should be more efficient in that local ordinances will suffice for oversight, and the constant change needed to address the always varying situation locally will be more immediate and direct. |

CAH established a fund for the benefit of indigent musicians and roadies in 2005. Many in the industry are private subcontractors for most of their career, and if they have not managed to participate in the on going benefits of having a hit of some kind or another with their name attached, such workers, especially those behind the scenes, have no safety net when they are too old to work or meet a catastrophic health crisis. |

CAH is a success and wishes to keep the ball rolling, foreseeing a day when the problem of hunger is taken off the agenda and handled by privately funded local business people skilled in management and solutions to local problems. |

The Lion’s Club, the Mason’s Lodge, and the Prince William County Human Rights Commission have recognized us for our work in the community. President Wayne Rodgers was named Citizen of the Year in 2002 by the Prince William Times newspaper. CAH is a 501 (C) (3) non-profit organization, and can issue an IRS recognized form for all donations. |
